Department Introduction:

Medical education in Pakistan is being continuously upgraded to meet the international standards. The Department of Rehabilitation and Health Sciences is one of the great initiative of Nazeer Hussain University (NHU) that offers undergraduate clinical doctorate degree program under the title of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). The department provides state of the art facilities including well-equipped laboratories, library with access to HEC Digital Library, spacious lecture halls and Auditorium. The academic environment is peaceful, pleasant yet competitive and disciplined. The academic activities provided at the department under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced faculty who are dedicated to equip the students with standard skill-based quality education and to produce high standard medical graduates, who can become true leaders through core knowledge and skilled practical approach.

Program Introduction:

» WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical therapy is an essential segment of modern health care system. It is a science of healing and art of caring. It pertains to the clinical examination, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, Neurological, Cardio-Vascular and Respiratory systems’ functional disorders including symptoms of pain, edema, physiological, structural and psychosomatic ailments. It deals with methods of treatment based on movement, manual therapy, physical agents, and therapeutics modalities to relieve the pain and other complications. Hence, Physical therapy covers basic parameters of healing sciences i.e. preventive, promotive, diagnostic, rehabilitative, and curative.
» DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Doctor of Physical (DPT) is a 05 years undergraduate degree program comprises of 10 semesters. Each semester of DPT comprises of six months duration with an actual period of study spreading over 18 weeks. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved curriculum of 174 credit hours is adopted and taught by highly qualified faculty.

» Why Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)?
The DPT program has been launched for Medical Students to

✓ To develop clinical skills to serve as responsible members in the professional community, willing and able to assume leadership roles in the communities they serve.
✓ Understand and place in context the social, economic and cultural issues of practice and effectively advocate for changes in policy.
✓ Correlate theory with practice and think creatively about, react to, adapt or shape new practice environments.
✓ Participate in and provide education for communities, patients, peers, students and others.

The vision of the department of Rehabilitation & Health Sciences is to maintain and evolve our prospective professionals with excellent leadership qualities in academic and clinical practice; and to create a knowledge base that promotes for higher studies and research opportunities.

Mission

Provide a platform to produce Physical Therapists who are expert in providing evidence based practice with high ethical and professional values and improve the quality of life of community.
